LET IT OUT: FESTIVAL THEMES 3

May 11, 2023

The power of art and music

Every revolution needs a solid soundtrack. At The Green Gathering, we bring over 100 artists and performers together to immerse us all in creativity, to inspire us to dance, sing, feel and be wild.

Our festival goes beyond entertainment, with opportunities to learn life-long skills, get involved in campaigns and more; at the same time, it's also about taking a big joyful break from the everyday.

Anxiety caused by climate and political crises is real and tough. We love that The Green Gathering has been described as ‘an antidote to climate grief’... a chance to party and let it all out before waking up ready to create a better world.

Our eclectic programme includes punk to rage to, electronic beats to vibe to, folk music to pluck at your heart-strings, conscious hip-hop to get you fired up, foot-stomping tunes to shake it all out to, DJ sets in the woods to rave the night away, and much, much more.

From the Triban Stage…

A beautiful bespoke white canvas marquee decorated with great attention to detail, spilling out into a garden with benches, campfire and fabulous solar array that powers the whole venue. Run by a non-profit collective passionate about great music and warm ambience, Triban has a laid-back bar and stage focused on folk, funk and global grooves. This venue has a gentle atmosphere – until the beats accelerate and the place erupts with wild dancing and unstoppable rhythms!

…to The Raconteurs' Delight…

A captivating venue, hosting performance and art based workshops by day; family friendly entertainment early evening; spoken word and cabaret acts by night; and special events - don't miss the traditional Sunday Poetry Slam. Comedians, poets, clowns, storytellers and jazz musicians rub shoulders in the Hedgerow Bar enjoying temperance drinks and kooky cocktails.

…to the Glad Apple Cider Bar…

This friendly bar faces the Village Green. It has stunning views across the Severn Estuary and makes a perfect cosy pit-stop. Taste the apples, or if cider’s not your thing go for a locally-brewed vegan ale or try a honey tipple from Wye Valley Meadery next door. Acoustic music sessions and unplugged jams happen around here and there's a campfire every evening - bring an instrument!

…to Floating Lotus…

A haven of interconnecting geodesic Lotus Domes provides a fab line up of festival faves, up-and-coming young artists, solo impressarios, psychedelia and politically conscious bands.

With laughter yoga every morning; a cafe serving aromatic teas and lovingly made cakes; a range of real ales and cider on tap in the bar; and a secret table tennis room - this venue really does have something for everyone. And like every one of our venues, it's all completely solar-powered.

…to the Soundscape Solar Stage…

An old school vibe and cutting edge sound, hosting every kind of musical act from a ukelele orchestra to an anarchist ceilidh, from punk to reggae to space-rock. The Soundscape crew are on a quest to find and showcase new and upcoming talent as well as festival favourites, while demonstrating just how fantastic a show can be using renewable, sustainable green energy. With spectacular views across Piercefield Park, a fine neighbouring bar and food stalls nearby, it’s tempting to spend the whole weekend here!

…to the Brimmon Oak Bar…

This is the bar next to Soundscape Solar Stage. Here we’ll have beers and ciders, ‘dark & stormy’ rum n ginger, organic wine and more. The bar is named after the original Brimmon Oak, a 500 year old Welsh Oak, which was threatened by road-building but saved by popular demand.

…to our yet-to-be-announced dance space in the woods.

Tucked amongst trees beside the crumbling ruins of Piercefield Manor House, this daytime playground and outdoor dance area will likely host puppet shows, collaborative art, immersive experiences, sound systems powered by the sun, and chill out spaces in shady woodland.

As well as choice tunes there's a range of organic ciders, beers and soft drinks at the 3.5% Bar. And no, that doesn't mean the beer is weak! 3.5% is said to be the percentage of a population required to become activists for a successful, non-violent revolution.

Along the way, look out for our walkabouts…

Stilt walkers, sock-wrestlers, circus artists, satirical character pieces - as you walk around the festival, expect to encounter any number of wonderful and wacky acts to keep you entertained at every corner.

…and pop-up performers.

Wander past our camp-fires, bars and bandstands and you’ll likely find musicians at every turn, pulling out their instrument of choice to sing and make music with newly-made friends. Dancing isn’t reserved just for our stages. On our feedback surveys, these random happenings are often festival-goers favourite moments.
