A DIFFERENT THREAD

“Warm, deep, songwriters who have drank from the well of 20th century folk tradition” - Folk Radio UK

Transatlantic band, A Different Thread, is fronted by Alicia Best from Durham and Robert Jackson from Birmingham, UK. The duo met busking in Ireland in 2016 and began making original music together while traveling and living on the road.

Pulling from their respective roots, they weave together elements of Celtic and Appalachian folk, country, and blues into a timeless, minimalist blend of Americana. It’s reminiscent of Gillian Welch, The Band, and Joni Mitchell with a nod to more contemporary artists such as The Woods Brothers and Rhiannon Giddens.

Their debut album ‘On a Whim’ (2018) was recorded at Arbor Ridge Studios with Jeff Crawford (Mipso, Mandolin Orange) and landed them features with both BBC Radio and NPR with Frank Stasio.

They are currently working on relocating stateside, while touring in the UK and Mexico with their latest release ‘Call of the Road’ (Sept 2022). The sophomore album was written over lockdown and deals with themes of love, loss, longing, and wanderlust.
