BELOVED CAMPERVANS

October 30, 2023

Here at GG HQ we’ve been struggling with a dilemma. As an internationally acclaimed Green event we’re always encouraging you to take public transport or share lifts but we also completely acknowledge there are a lot of van-lovers and van-lifers amongst you. And amongst us – did you know that more than half the festival’s directors have been van-dwellers, one still is a full-timer, and several of our coordinators live on the road or in countryside park-ups? Traditional and new Travellers are represented at the festival, and we always want to offer space for buses, Bongos and everything in between.

This year, though, we had to stop selling campervan tickets because all the allocated space was full. And yet, we’d sold fewer tickets than in previous years. Huh? How come? Well... here we come to it... awnings. Awnings have been spawning and sprawling, growing and taking over our campervan areas. Awnings are wonderful things, but they can be greedy. We’ve been selling ‘standard’ campervan pitches of 6m x 4m but many of you have been taking up more space than that. A minority have even been rude to our wonderful stewards who’ve been trying to make sure everyone takes their fair share of space so we can fit you all in.

What to do? We wrestled with this and ultimately decided we can’t insist everyone occupies only a standard sized pitch – some of you will have these spacious awnings and will be too sad if we say you can’t use them. So what we’re going to do – to make the system fairer – is offer a whole heap more campervan options. Now you can more easily choose the right size pitch for your needs, and the stewards will help site you according to the ticket you’ve bought, rather than having to try and fit everyone into the same sized box.

Please have a look at the tickets now on offer, read all the options and think carefully about which you need – we hope you’ll find one to suit, and of course knowing how many of each size we’ve sold in advance should help us organise the space to better fit you all in.

Beloved campervanners. If you bring yours, consider entering your mileage and donating to ecolibrium – while we don’t encourage ‘offsetting’, we know this organisation and they have some good projects. Here, below, this year’s range of campervan ticket options.

Important info: If you buy a pitch that includes space for an awning, you can place one tent next to your van instead of the awning or under the awning. No more than one tent, and the tent must be inside your pitch!
